What’s a meme with you?

meme

 [meem]
–noun
a cultural item that is transmitted by repetition
Origin:    Gk mīmeîsthai  to imitate, copy

A twitter meme is an imitation or copy of another joke with a slight personalised twist. The challenge is to be original.

Note the pronunciation of meme. Despite everyone wanting to put their own spin on things (look at ME look at MY version of a tired old joke) it’s not ME ME. And even though they can get meh pretty quickly it’s not meh me. It’s meem.

If you’re STILL not sure you can press the funky audio button I borrowed (with no intention of returning) from dictionary.com.

Twitter memes are pretty simple. You have the #hashtag jokes that get out of control when everyone is high or bored. Or a combination of the two. These can be amusing or like watching your drunk friends try to string a sentence together.

Or there are the tired classics everyone puts their own spin on.

My superpower is blah blah blah.

My spirit animal is blah blah blah.

My inner child blah blah blah.

I like my men/women like I like my coffee. Blah blah blah.

Who has two thumbs and blah blah blah? This guy/girl/idiot.

If blah blah blah is wrong then I don’t want to be right.

No, YOU’RE blah blah blah.

Blah blah blah blah. Apparently.

“Blah blah blah” - said no one ever.

Blah blah blah blah. See what I just did there?

I don’t mean to brag but blah blah blah.

or the tiredest internet joke of all: Your mom.
